UseKase.ai ("we," "our," or "us") operates the SpeakToCode desktop application and the speaktocode.ai website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, name (optional), and authentication credentials. If you sign in via Google or GitHub OAuth, we receive your public profile information from those providers.
  • Payment Information: When you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number. Stripe provides us with your payment method type, last four digits, and billing address.
  • Support Communications: When you contact us, we collect the information you provide in your message.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Statistics (opt-in sync only): If you enable cloud sync, we store your transcription text, word counts, session durations, and daily statistics on our servers. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Website Analytics: We use Plausible Analytics (privacy-focused, cookie-free) to collect anonymous page views and referrer information. No personal data is tracked.
  • Device Information: Our desktop app detects basic hardware information (CPU cores, GPU presence) locally to recommend Whisper models. This information is never transmitted.

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Audio recordings: Your voice recordings are processed entirely on your local device and are never uploaded to our servers. Audio files are stored locally on your machine and can be deleted at any time.
  • Clipboard contents: While SpeakToCode uses the clipboard to paste text, we do not log, store, or transmit clipboard contents.
  • Keystrokes or screen content: We do not monitor, log, or transmit any information about your keyboard input or screen content.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Process your subscription payments
  • Sync your transcription history and settings across devices (when you opt in)
  • Send important service communications (security alerts, billing issues)
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Analyze anonymous usage patterns to improve the product

We do NOT use your information to:

  • Train AI models
  • Sell to third parties
  • Display targeted advertising
  • Profile your behavior

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: Supabase (database hosting), Stripe (payment processing), Vercel (website hosting). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or court order.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (you would be notified).

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Account data and synced transcriptions are stored on Supabase (hosted on AWS) in the United States.
  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256).
  • We implement access controls, audit logging, and regular security reviews.
  • Your local data (SQLite database, audio files, settings) is stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SpeakToCode\ and is protected by your operating system's user permissions.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained as long as your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
  • Transcriptions (synced): Retained until you delete them or close your account.
  • Local data: Stored on your device until you delete it or uninstall the application.
  • Payment records: Retained as required by tax and accounting regulations (typically 7 years).

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to processing
  • Restrict processing

7. GDPR (European Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area:

  • Our legal basis for processing is your consent (for optional sync) and contractual necessity (for account management).
  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.
  • Data transfers outside the EEA are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. CCPA (California Users)

If you are a California resident:

  • You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
  • You have the right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • You have the right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell data).
  • We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

9. Children's Privacy

SpeakToCode is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on our website. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
